The First Ascent & Descent of an Active Volcano in Kamchatka, Russia
Documenary / 16mm / 30 minutes
Directed, Produced and Edited by Lili Schad
Fire and Ice is a harrowing journey to one of the most remote spots on earth by filmmaker, mountaineer and extreme skier Lili Schad. Schad and her team make a first ascent (and fast descent!) of the second largest active volcano in the infamous “Ring of Fire”, an area preserved from human development during the cold war. The film explores the environmental impacts on the forest floor and the Kamchatka Brown Bear now that the region is open to tourism, forestry and mining.
